To make agriculture a sustainable, viable, and competitive enterprise through technological interventions in farm mechanization, value addition, and energy management throughout production and post-harvest activities.
Energy Management in Production: Implementing energy-efficient practices and renewable energy sources in agricultural production can reduce the reliance on non-renewable energy and decrease the carbon footprint. Strategies like conservation agriculture, organic farming, and integrated pest management can lead to higher energy use efficiency.
Energy Management in Post-Harvest Operations: Utilizing renewable energy for post-harvest processes such as drying and milling can lead to significant energy and cost savings. For example, solar energy solutions can reduce CO2 emissions and are particularly beneficial for small farm holders.
These interventions are interlinked and contribute to the overall goal of making agriculture more sustainable and resilient. By adopting these practices, farmers can improve their livelihoods while ensuring the long-term viability of the agricultural sector.
To develop and implement engineering technologies that are need-based and region-specific in order to produce sustained improvements in productivity and profitability of various farming systems.
Some of the strategies to achieve the mission are:Establish systems to monitor the impact of the technologies and make adjustments as needed to ensure they are delivering the desired outcomes.
